We are pleased to present you with a very special fall edition of Recess on Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 440 Studios in Manhattan! from 11am-10:30pm (an extra hour of gaming)! How special is it? Behold!

Back to Old School: A crash course in 1980’s (and your favorite modern games)
Want to save Castle Greyskull from the boney clutches of Skeletor with a 20-sided die, go screaming into the galactic core via that purple Star Frontiers box, or seek out Lovecraftian horrors in the Mystery Machine with a pocketful of Scooby snacks? Of course you fucking do, and so do we!
This special edition of Recess will feature a role-playing game selection in loving tribute to the best games/toys/cartoons of the 1980’s, in addition to all of your favorite 21st century boardgames, card games and RPGs. No matter if you were born into a world of 8-track cassettes or downloading MP3s, Recess: BtOS will get your gamer senses tingling like the first time you scored a critical hit.
New to role playing games? Come play some really cool games and create some new nostalgia with us! No prior gaming experience necessary, we love to teach the rules as you play!
Game Organizers, we’re still accepting submissions of your favorite modern boardgames, card games and RPGs.
Or if you think you’d like to host BtOS style RPG we’re looking for 4-hour slots of either:
-Modern games fitted with a retro cartoon-themed skin. We loves these! Players in past events have raved over He-Man using D&D 4E, Transformers with home-brew rules, Scooby Doo Cthulhu. We’re seeking modern RPG systems set in the worlds of (just to name a few, or make a mash-up of your favorites!): G.I.Joe, Thundercats, Galaxy Rangers, Thundarr the Barbarian, Ducktales, Inspector Gadget, Rescue Rangers, Jem and the Holograms, Inhumanoids, She-Ra, Care Bears, Ghostbusters, Hulk Hogan's Rockin' Wrestling, The Smurfs, Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, Strawberry Shortcake...that’s right, let’s roll to see if Shortcake bust a cap in The Peculiar Purple Pieman’s ass.
-Classic Red Box D&D, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, Star Frontiers, Traveller, Gamma World, Marvel Superheroes or any 1980’s (or very early 1990’s or late 1970’s) RPG.

Admission for the day is $20 per person. Free admission to volunteers that run games at least four hours of games.

The recipient of the lucky ticket will not only be our guest free-of-charge for this Recess but that person will have special V.I.P advance and priority registration in games of their choice. RSVPs will be considered for the draw up until Sunday September 5th, at 11:59 pm. The Golden Ticket drawing will be held on Monday the 7th for some very special Nerd out there ...and it could be you!
[Recess: FAQ]
What is Recess? – Recess is a quarterly gameday hosted by NerdNYC. Recess exists to provide opportunities for our attendees to socialize and play. None of the games require any previous experience and rules will be taught as needed. We want every person attending Recess to have good time. Anyone who cannot play nicely with others will be asked to leave (without refund).
How much does it cost to get in? – Recess admission costs $20 dollars. People who have volunteered run games for at least 4 hours will have their admission fee waived. Recess proceeds go directly to renting the space, maintaining the NerdNYC website forums, and funding other events. Therefore, attending Recess directly supports NerdNYC as a whole.
How do I sign up to play games? – Registration for games is done on site. We put up the sign up sheets a half hour before the two blocks of games begin. Make sure you show up on time to sign up! To be fair to all, you are only allowed to sign-up for yourself. Since there are limits to how many people can play any given game, It is entirely possible that some games get filled up early. Don't worry if you didn't get into a game that appealed to you – that's just an opportunity to play something else that you may not have otherwise considered!
What will the food situation be like at Recess? – The area around the 440 Studios is chock full of places for food and beverages. There is a two hour break between sessions to allow people to get food and come back without missing any scheduled events.
Is there any other way I can help out besides running a game? – Occasionally we need additional help. In those instances we'll put a call out for volunteers well in advance of the Recess date. So keep an eye out!
I've got cool nerd-stuff I'd like to share with the world, what do i do? – A Recess tradition is the "Swap Table". This is a place for attendees to leave any nerdy gear (books, games, art, toys, videos, etc.) that they no longer want or have space for. Anything placed on the Swap Table is considered to be free for anyone to take. If you bring items for the Swap Table, please check at the end of the day and take any unclaimed items home with you!
What else do I need to know about the Golden Ticket? – The Golden Ticket is non-transferable and not available to officers of NerdNYC.
