This thread is meant to remind you about some details of the Nerd by Nerd East that you may have missed, forgotten, or never known about.
The Game Sign-up Procedure
In order to be fair to as many people as possible, sign-ups for scheduled games are conducted as follows:
1. Game descriptions for all scheduled games that day will be posted on the hallway walls at the beginning of the day. All attendees may read these descriptions and decide what they would like to play. Attendees are STRONGLY encouraged to also choose a 2nd and a 3rd choice, in case their first choice fills up quickly.
2. At roughly 11:30am, sign-ups for games starting before 5pm will start at a table manned by Recess staff. Another sign-up (for games starting after 5pm) will begin at 5pm. Sign-ups will continue until all games are full, or until the games are sufficiently underway.
3. Attendees will sign-up, in queue, for their desired games. If the game you wanted is full, go with that second choice. Or be a real adventurer and try something completely new!
4. To be fair to everyone who wants to play a certain game, you can only sign yourself up. Your friends will need to stand in line to get their own spots.
5. Be nice to your fellow attendees and don't cut in line. Eppy doesn't like it.
6. Since there are limits to how many people can play any given game, It is entirely possible that some games get filled up early. Don't worry if you didn't get into a game that appealed to you -- that's just an opportunity to play something else that you may not have otherwise considered! In addition, our GMs can generally be convinced to re-run a popular game at a future Recess, GGG, or other event, so you may get another chance to play the one you missed. Go ahead and introduce yourself to that GM, so that they know there is interest in an encore performance! NxNE is about meeting new people and having fun. There will be a number of pick-up games at open tables, so there will be plenty to do.
Pick-up Games
Just because a game isn't in the schedule doesn't mean it won't get played at NxNE. We strongly encourage all our attendees to bring their own games too!
Each table at NxNE will have a schedule attached to it. Occasionally, the table schedule will say "OPEN GAMING" -- this means that the table is free for whomever wants to run a game there during that time. Some tables will be scheduled as OPEN GAMING throughout the entire day.
If you want to run a pick-up game, just find a table during an OPEN GAMING time slot, and start setting up! If you are having problems getting players for your game, notify a NxNE Staff member and we will try to direct people to you. Just be sure to wrap up your game before the end of the OPEN GAMING time slot.
The Swap Table
One table during NxNE is designated and clearly labeled as the "Swap Table". This is a place for attendees to leave any nerdy gear (books, games, art, toys, videos, etc.) that they no longer want or have space for. Anything placed on the Swap Table is considered to be free for anyone to take.
If you leave stuff on the Swap Table, please check at the end of NxNE to make sure it has all been claimed. If not, please take the remainders home with you so that the staff does not have to throw nerdy treasures in the trash!
Nerd Snacks
At many of our events, nerds often take it upon themselves to bring snacks to share. This is totally encouraged! We can provide a bar space to lay out whatever food people want to bring. The staff will provide cups and water throughout the day.
In addition, attendees can opt to buy a share of pizza that will be delivered at 4pm (Saturday only). On Sunday, there will be a free bagel brunch starting at 11am (and continuing while supplies last).
The staff can also provide a map to local eateries in the area, in case you want to pop out for a bite at any time.
Finally, if you have questions or concerns while at Nerd by Nerd East, you can always contact a member of the NxNE staff, who will be available throughout the weekend.
