Diablo III

from Q*Bert to Gamecube.

Postby Saif on Wed May 23, 2012 9:47 am

Diablo 3 had 4.7 million players on day 1, and 6.3 million by the end of the first week.

Holy shit.

I knew the numbers were big, and even if you take the Annual Pass out of that, 1.2 million, a launch week of 5.1 million sales is absurd and insane.

Make sure you have an authenticator on your account! People without it are getting hacked. And I've just heard about there being a keylogging flash ad snuck into sites like curse.

Affirmative. Death-Bot 9000 would rather avoid internet drama.

The other theory going around is that this is a session hijack via info gleamed from co-op play. Of the two people I know who were hacked, one I don't have enough info on but the other played in a lot of public games. So besides getting an authenticator, till we know more I'd suggest avoiding public games.

Keyloggers have been on curse for years. Authenticators are always a good idea for any online game that offers them. Most of them (including blizzard) offer them for free through an app on smart phones too.

I never could quite explain why I didn't enjoy dungeon crawls. Fortunately, in standard snippy form, Zero Punctuation sums it up here starting at just before the 4:30 mark.

Whether he likes a game or not and whether I like a game or not I usually agree with Yahtzee's assessment of facts even if I don't agree with the opinions based on those facts.
For the d3 review there's a lot he got wrong. Some of which he even mentions getting wrong in the credits. For example right at the point you talk about he comments on the randomly generated dungeons which he thinks are the same rooms pasted with different corridors. This analogy is only true if you consider like 80-90% of the game the corridors and those corridors not being short thin empty rooms. Though he does have it right that a large portion of the game is about the fabulous pants. It's a game of killing and looting and never claims to be otherwise. The story is not even secondary in d3. Was anyone really surprised by the fact that Diablo is released so you can kill him as final boss in a game called Diablo?

That said I will still wait every week to watch ZP again and again. :)

I have my pony stick! though only normal level so far. need 200k more for nightmare version. Can't get higher than that till I beat more diablo tiers.
Holler at me if ya want to see the land of killer unicorns and teddybears. Note that the difficulty of whimsyshire is on par with Act 4 of the same tier or may be a touch harder.

Anyone beat Inferno on Solo yet?

I'm almost done with Hell mode on solo. Haven't had much time to play D3 lately - maybe 4 - 6 hours left to go before I hit Inferno.
