Love in a little plastic bag with cardboard backing + grind-core, math-rock, polka, musical parody,

Nerd NYC member Lizzie Stark (well, she's new to Nerd NYC, but she was at the last Recess pre-party) just put out a book entitled Leaving Mundania about Larp, both in the U.S. and Europe: http://elizabethrstark.com/leaving-mundania/

It's available at Amazon: http://amzn.to/IhKKb4
Barnes and Noble: http://bit.ly/JUjNdE
and Powell's: http://bit.ly/JrkGGZ

The Recess crowd may recognize some of the people in the book, and certainly some of the cons and LARPs. It's a great read and a book worth supporting and getting out to a larger audience.

And Lizzie will be out and about a bunch of events: http://elizabethrstark.com/events/

Its on the new paperback wall at my bookstore. It came out like two weeks ago. I've been reading it on my break so far so good. Plus the covered photo is good, a guy in armor on a train it looks like a D or maybe a B train.

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I'm hoping to make it back to Recess to actually play...

The "official" pub date for the book is May 1, though it's definitely already out in stores. Also, I have two readings in NYC coming up in May:

May 15 @6pm @ the Corner Bookstore (1313 Madison Ave @ 93rd Street, Manhattan)
May 30 @7pm @WORD (126 Franklin Street, Brooklyn)

I'm reading with the first journalist subpoenaed under the Obama administration -- his book is about the largest domestic dope bust -- at both of them. The WORD reading also features the author of Visit Sunny Chernobyl, about visiting the world's most polluted places.

I'd love to see some real-live gamers there. And to hear what you think of the book.

If you guys haven't seen this yet, the BBC did a cool short bit on Leaving Mundania and one of our local New Jersey LARPs, Knight Realms: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17914502

If you've missed it live, you can listen to it here: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/bl/2012/may/25/larping-along/

She does a really good job in presenting LARPing specifically and gaming in general in a very positive light.
