I didnt read the books but it seemed like he drank the poison because it was the last thing to do, he knew his time was coming anyway, that his old ways have been cast aside, so he figured he'd take out the witch and himself in the process, sacrificing himself for the greater good so to speak

The baffling thing about the scene was how openly he put the poison in the cup!

I quite enjoyed this episode - I thought it was a lot better than much of Season 1 (which wasn't bad to start with.)

The barely suppressed glee in Tirion's face as he comes to the city made me smile.

I liked Melisandre actually, but her accent is throwing me a bit. Stannis I think needs more time with his character to grow into it. I remember in the book the first time I blinked at his harshness was when someone suggests he team up with Robb and he's like "That rebel who wants to steal half my kingdom?" And in the episode the line came and went without much impact.

The preview clips of the Battle of Blackwater are making me salivate...

Ah see, now this is something that I feel deems clarification...and the show didn't do a very good job of it.

Melissandre isn't Stannis's wife. He spends much more time with her than his wife, and at times it seems his wife, and disfigured daughter mean less to him than Melissandre.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies," said Jojen. "The man who never reads lives only one.”

Ha! I'm only halfway through the episode. I hope they make this clearer...

Episode 2

- Asha (or whatever her new name is) - I pictured her with short, black hair.
- When the advisory came up at the beginning there was no 'nudity' listed. I was like 'that's a first', it wasn't.
- Balon Greyjoy looked right
- Tyrion vs Varys is always a pleasure
- I envisaged the Iron Isles as bleaker. Looked way too green for me. The castle looked cool though
- 'what is that on exotic brothel girls mou... ewwwwhhhhhhhh!'
It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life when one morning he awakes and quite reasonably says to himself "I will never play the Dane."

Also the ending of episode 2 was different from the book, at least i don't remember that in the book. Does anyone have insight into this?

I don't think the episodes are necessarily in perfect chronological order of anything. They did make a lot of changes, most all of it making scenes more dramatic and compact than in the book. I for one am grateful for that, since so much of it is rather meandering. And it's a lot more compelling for John Snow to see an Other steal away with a baby than have somebody just tell him about it (or at least that's how I recall it in the book).

The brothel scene with the mouth touch up and following kiss was awesome! I loved Ari not taking shit from Hot Pie or Gendry...and then Gendry dishing it back to her. And what's his face in the cage, creepier and sleazier than imagined. And poor Cerci had so many reasons to make her excellent bitch sneer again and again. And omg, Ghost grew really, really big, much more so than the runt I thought he would remain.

It was only slightly different. I assume in episode 3 the big fight will happen, and the lord commander will be killed. Unless I'm mistaken, Jon was blacked out for most of it?
