Kindle and the Queens Library

Love in a little plastic bag with cardboard backing + grind-core, math-rock, polka, musical parody,

Okay, so I finally joined the New Millenium and I have an e-reader. A Kindle Touch, to be specific. Part of the reason that I held out so long was that I never actually bought books, I just borrowed from the library. But, I hear you can borrow books from the library on the Kindle.

Great.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to do this.

Help?

I can't help you with borrowing books, but I got a kindle touch for xmas and I've read more since I got it than I have in years. I love it! And there are a shit-ton of free SF ebooks out there!

That's been my problem. I no longer have a subway commute and find I'm not reading as much. It kills me.

What are your top free SF ebook recommendations?

Thanks! That's the page I had found earlier, but couldn't find again. It did help, but the the actual Queens library website is pretty awful.

Oh! I got it! I figured it out. Awesome.

You'll be pleased to know that my first library download is "They Call me Baba Booey."

SUCCESS!

I'm waiting for this:

And there's a nice short here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=51311

Also, here's a great feature with the kindle.

Go to www.instapaper.com and set up a free account. Then put the "read later" bookmarklet in your browser bar. Whenever you see a long article on the internet that you want to read except you don't want to read it on your computer, click the "read later" bookmarklet. Then that article will be saved on instapaper, and you can configure instapaper to send the article to your kindle. It's fantastic!

Also, if it's one of those long articles that has many pages, you can click the "reader" icon in safari which puts the article all one one page, then click read later and have it sent to your kindle.

To put anything on your kindle, just email it as a doc or txt file to your amazon kindle address, which you can find by logging into your kindle account and checking your kindle settings. You have to authorize your email address, and an email address from instapaper, for that all to work, but it's simple and well worth it.
