I've been playing this a lot on my commute. It's one of those games that's really fun despite having some significant problems. The basic mechanics are interesting, reminiscent of Magic, and the art is pretty good too. But it crashes immediately every other time I start it up, and more than half of the games I start come to premature ends because the deck is stacked against me or in my favor. (This could easily be fixed by a "mulligan" mechanic invisible to the user, as in Magic.) Winning the game and scoring high are nearly incompatible goals, but this provides some variety - you can aim for either result. Also, don't be fooled by the low price - to come into its own, you'll need to buy the expansions for $5. In short, a good game, but I'd love to know of similar games that do a better job.

Here are some codes for free expansions:

164-209-433 (Curious Elixirs)

031-062-023 (Casual Wizard)

Cackling Kobolds - (325-676-793) (this expansion is boring and has poor art)

I got this today and played all the way home on the train. I'm still getting the hang of the "chase" mechanics and stuff but it's fun and has enough flavor not to feel too abstract.

Actually, can you explain the Chase mechanics? I can't figure out why sometimes something gets bumped or doesn't, and why it seems like sometimes the card that gets bumped does the next fight, and other times the card it bumped into does it.

Heroes that get chased off the board in either direction are just gone, monsters chased off the bottom are gone, but monsters chased off the top attack the castle, is that right?

Not sure I understand the question. If a card has an arrow, it bumps its opponent if there's a stalemate. That should be consistent.

Heroes that get chased off go back into the deck, so you can draw them again. I think monsters that are chased off the bottom go back in the deck too, but I'm not sure. Yes, if they go off the top of the board they attack the castle, which is bad.

OK, let's say we have this layout:
Code: Select all
monster1  heroA
monster2  heroB
monster3  heroC

monster1 and heroA tie, and monster1 gets chased down. What happens next, all monsters underneath gets chased down? monster1 fights heroB and monster2 fights heroC and monster3 is chased off the board? I feel like sometimes the chased chard disappears and the card below does the combat instead? But I might just be confused because everything happens so fast.

It think the confusion may arise if Monster1 is killed by HeroB after being chased down. In that case, Monster2 and Monster3 would stay in their places. If HeroA is the only card with an arrow in that setup, then there's no way bumping Monster1 would make Monster2 fight HeroB. That would only happen in there are more arrows involved.

Are you on an iPad 2? Maybe it runs faster than on the original iPad.

Damn, I didn't realize that deleting the game also deleted my high score. I think I got above 1 million.

OK, this morning I saw the situation which was causing my confusion:

Code: Select all
monster1  heroA
monster2  heroB
monster3  heroC

monster1 and heroA tie. heroA is chased down. heroA and monster2 fight. If heroA loses, heroB stays where he is.

Anyhow, I am addicted to this game! Which expansions do you recommend? I'm not into crazy wacky effects.
