NerdNYC Boardgame Night: Saturday, Feburary 4th

Nerds, Tables and Games

An alternative venue for an afternoon gaming event would be the mercer street Whole Foods (obviously, on a different day than the board game meetup gets scheduled there). They seem pretty gamer friendly and have great space/food options.

Now, regarding this...I believe I shall make it.

I am abstaining from the this competition thing because lugging Samurai on it's own is trouble enough and lugging Carcassonne, Ticket To Ride and Settlers to Recess was a pain in the arse. I looked like a bag lady ffs.
It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life when one morning he awakes and quite reasonably says to himself "I will never play the Dane."

I'm not much of a competitive gamer so I'll also abstain from the contest, though I like the idea of it.

I'll be bringing Search for the Emperor's Treasure, which I brought to my first BGN way back in August. It's a game that was designed by Tom Wham to capture the flavor of OD&D hexcrawling on a board with no hexes, first published in the July 1981 issue of Dragon Magazine. It's a fun and easy game to pick up, possibly my favorite boardgame ever. Newcomers to BGN are definitely welcome to play, as are seasoned folk. Up to 8 can play, so there's plenty of room.

I probably haven't thought of that game in thirty years. Excellent!

Wait, regarding this contest...do card games count or not count?
Not that I'm likely to actually try to compete, but it's nice to know the parameters.

Card games count! I was just trying to say that, for example, if you brought a deck of standard playing cards, it would only count once -- even though you can use the same deck to play Bridge, Poker, Whist, Gin Rummy, Hearts, Spades, Go Fish, etc, etc.

Don't worry -- my counting will be fair and equitable. And Final. 8)
