Great line. Is that the reverse of an acquired taste, like with whiskey?

Mumbles:

I don't know if it's quite so harsh, but I agree that the funny factor isn't there as much - however, I never really thought of it as funny, just snapshots, some of which happened to be funny. There was a streak of funny a while ago though I can't remember it much.

I hear you, though, I didn't mean to get defensive. Thanks. :)

The comic may not be funny, but your rant against was hilarious. An "opportunity to be a pedantic dick", indeed!

I like xkcd quite a bit. I can't think of any webcomic, or comic for that matter, that's consistently funny, or even more than rarely funny. Best any comic manages with me is entertaining and amusing. I don't know what's not amusing about there actually being a Sucksville, or using it as a comeback to that banal old taunt. And I like that he weaves in stuff I may not know. Hell, most comics 'welcome to sucksville, population you' would be the punchline... that would be a Cathy joke.

Wait, are you saying that you've devoted time to your dislike of a stick figure comic?

But it wouldn't be a Cathy for nerds joke--it wouldn't express the right kind of insecurity. What's not funny about it is that there's no joke. It's just moldy observational comedy. I haven't even heard anyone attempt this smackdown in years. It's like treppenwitz for something that happened ten years ago, where you're allowed to create unrealistic dialog and implausible fictions to make your comeback seem worth making. It's like an Ayn Rand novel in webcomic form.

Anyway, Dinosaur Comics is a million times better. A billion times better. All of the times better. But if there are no webcomics better than xkcd, so much the worse for webcomics.

Yes, god damn it. I have honed my craft. If something it worth doing, it's worth doing right. And it's not worth doing...fuck you!!! :x

That's talking the crazy talk, when Dinosaur comics is good, it's xkcd with dinsosaurs. Just look at todays:
Image
It's an exposition on language - observation comedy - with a silly nonsense word and a story about space aliens - unrealistic dialog and implausible fictions - to support the punchline which isn't a joke. It's six panels to give us a Sniglet.

Amusing sure, but a million times better? That's a load of treppenwitz.
