Just for the label alone, I must try this beer!

And that's what the marketers were hoping for. :)

I was all excited that it was a Barleywine until I read about how proud they are of how much hops is in it.

Overhopped barleywines = epic fail.

If you think about an IPA in a concentrated form, you would be on the right track. They are frequently thick and high in gravity. As chance would have, 12/30/11 I was brewing some with my dad! Against his initial plan, i conned him into adding ginger.

Lordy, but i am a beer nerd. I actually recognized 7 of the 11 hops listed. For any who care, I used Centennial and Falconer's Flight.

Love the label, but I cannot drink super-hoppy stuff. Alas.

A Barleywine is strong like wine (but not as strong I think) but made from barley.

The best non-hoppy barleywine I can find here in NY is Weyerbacher's Blithering Idiot.

The best barleywine-hands down-is Old Crustacean from Rogue. I cannot find it here in bottles, but back in the day, DBA used to have it on tap. But it is hoppy.

I just tried my first barleywine tonight, actually, because of this thread. It was Old Foghorn. For my first time trying it, all I can say is that it's intense. But in a good way. Anyone have any opinion on this particular brand?
