And I haven't really seen Burn Notice or White Collar, but from the commercials, I'd have to say that yes, the shows are similar enough that you'll probably be fine.
That being said, let's have some definitions!
GRIFTER: The consummate con artist, the grifter relies on empathy to deceit to fool the mark.
HACKER: The hacker's main weapon is information, whether it be through scoring data (like a password) or through objects (like a radio jammer).
HITTER: Hitters deal in direct application of force. Usually punches. You need a hitter when a con goes wrong and threats pop out of the woodwork.
MASTERMIND: The brains of the operation, the mastermind makes all the plans and can see the big picture.
THIEF: Breaking into places (and pockets!), the thief's main concern is access.
So when you make your character, you are going to pick a primary role and a secondary role (from above).
For instance, Pillar's possible forger character would probably be a HACKER/THIEF.
There's a lot more to character creation that than, but its a good place to start...
