The Red Wolf Conspiracy

Love in a little plastic bag with cardboard backing + grind-core, math-rock, polka, musical parody,

Postby TanRu on Tue Sep 28, 2010 6:56 am

Has anybody read The Red Wolf Conspiracy ? Falgrim, I'm looking at you!

Insane god-kings, miniature warriors and sentient animals fight over a powerful ancient artifact in Redick's dramatic, complex debut. The Mzithrin and Arquali Empires have been locked in a 40-year cold war over the resources and riches of the Crownless Lands on their common frontier. Now the Chathrand, a floating city built as much by sorcerer as shipwright, bears young Thasha, an unwilling bride to an enemy prince. No one seems sure whether this is a sincere attempt to bind the two empires together in peace or merely a gambit in their political games. The tense atmosphere soon erupts as various factions struggle to find and control the myth-wrapped Red Wolf. Both adult and young adult readers will find much to enjoy in this tale of sea-faring and bloody diplomacy.

I enjoyed it a lot. My only disappointment was realizing 80% through that it's not a stand-alone book. The second book just came out a few months ago, and there's two more to come. That being said, I could not put it down. The main character is very interesting and entertaining, and the world very well-developed. Thumbs up, excited to read the rest! (I am trying to hold off on reading the second book until the third is out in hardcover but I'm not sure I'm going to make it...)

Looks cool. I prefer my Wolf fiction to be of the Bad variety though.

Fascinating. I have not read it. In fact this is the first I am hearing about it. I'll have to add it onto my Amazon list.

Excellent! I got the sequel, which I know I should hold off on reading since the third book isn't even written yet... but that ain't gonna happen.

I'm reading the sequel now, and the next book is coming out in April I think.

I actually briefly set it aside to read "The Heroes" by Joe Abercrombie first. When I'm done with that I'll definitely read "The Red Wolf Conspiracy" and Book 2.

I got the first one on the Kindle last week (am only like 5% of the way into it) - so far so good - curious to see where it is going!

Thanks for the recommendation TanRu.

I want to read The Heroes but I am scared. I loved the First Law trilogy but thought Best Served Cold was awful. I put it down after the first 100 or so pages of violence porn.

I'm posting this here so boredoom doesn't see!

I really liked Best Served Cold, so don't trust any review I give of The Heroes. That being said, so far it is excellent, and not a single person has died, or been blinded. :)
