DEXCON 2012

Post events and find friends to play games with!

Postby at5115 on Wed May 30, 2012 7:27 am

Soooo... In light of a Recess-less Summer (major bummer), I am going to run games at Dexcon this year. Namely my All Flesh Must Be Eaten: Cabin in the Woods :) I'm excited (but nervous) because the venue is so much larger than Recess. Although the Venue has an awesome salt-maintained pool :)

Is anyone else going? Last Dreamation was super awesome - but the last Dexcon I went to didn't have as good of a game selection. So hoping more Indie-games this time.

I'll be there. *Probably* not running anything, at least not formally (though I am generally up for being drafted to run Mouse Guard, Burning Wheel, Dogs, etc.).

I will be going and I plan to submit 5+ games!

I'm going to announce this soon but in light of Recess cancellation, I spoke to the Dexcon folks and they said they would give any nerdnyc members discounts to attend the event. If you enter the code "nerdnyc-10", you will get $10 off!

Three games? I thought they have some kind of Stalin-era player/hours calculation. Last time, I put up for four games, two of which were scheduled at midnight, and two of which were shut-down for lack of players. Very efficient, this Stalinist gaming :)

Are people going and staying overnight for all the days?
I looked over dexposure.com and I'm a bit confused.
Can someone tell me more about what this Double Exposure inc is? Is it a nerdnyc similar thing? Does it do something other than hold these big cons?
Is it worth going to dexcon for just a day? Is it very similar to Recess but bigger? or is it way more than that?
I've never actually gone to any con outside of nerdnyc events. (whether or not nerdnyc events can be considered cons)
Having never been to a big con, I'm pondering sticking my toe in the water since I can just drive to this. Though I hate wandering around these kinds of things by myself.

Affirmative. Death-Bot 9000 would rather avoid internet drama.

It's bigger than Recess (over a thousand people) but feel small (in a good way).

I like staying overnight for at least 2 days but I've had fun going just for 1 day.

I suggest pre-registering for specific events whenever that happens (usually a little bit before the event itself).

That's the main system used by the central Con organizers and yes its more than a little byzantine and not as generous as one might hope. However, the form Jenskot linked to is the one for the Indie Explosion, a sort of sub-event within Dexcon for promoting non-mainstream games which gives you more for the effort.

I just submitted six offerings (3 games, each to be run twice): Stars Without Number, SUPERS! and Barbarians of Lemuria. Which is an interesting change for me, as I'm not trying to leave time for playing anything (the last Dreamation demonstrated, when strangers are involved, how much more I enjoy being a GM than a player). Oh, I'll also likely be carrying my T&T kit for on-the-fly tunnel-running.

Now I've got to start delicately asking around for room-sharing.
Zongo!
I keep a gaming wiki, but I'm lazy about it.

So on the fence about going to this. Part of me wants to go for the whole thing, since it's so long this year because of where the 4th falls, rest of me thinks that's too much but also doesn't want to go for just a day trip.
