If you head down Astor Place (turn right while facing downtown at the Cube), there's a diner called Soup & Burger (I think) which is pretty much like all other diners. If you head down St. Mark's place (turn left while facing downtown at the Cube), there are a bunch of different places you can try.

Tons of places around Astor, especially on St. Marks Place, on 3rd Avenue, up and down East 9th, 10th, 11th, 7th, etc. Sushi, vegetarian, pizza, tapas, and specific places: Dojo's, Around The Clock diner, etc.
