GGG5: Changes? Suggestions?

Bi-monthly RPG Club

eh, I was just kidding cause of that whole discussion in the RPG section.

for real, the only thing that bugged me this time around was the wacky scheduling - every other week is the best, I think.

Two weeks in a row in the beginning is kind of cool though, cause it jumpstarts things.

And I second the thing about GM commitment. Emergencies aside, it's only fair that you should be there to run your game.

I told you that was a super-secret, experimental payment method that you're not supposed to tell anyone about, not even jenskot, not even if he says he never got any money from you, not even if the amount he's asking for is a lot less then you gave me.

The wacky schedule this year was too confusing. I thought I understood it, but then I missed last week. Make it regular. I'll still miss some, but that's cause I'm an ass.

I like the idea of mixing the rooms up. It'd be nice to disturb a different set of nerds with my yelling and screaming.

Jimb and Eppy shouldn't be allowed to run games together. The bad touching has gotten to be too much. I can't cry anymore...and the stains don't wash out of my clothing.

Also:

Change it from a Friday.
Have more one shots.
I want to run a zombie game with pirates and vikings and time travelling.

I didn’t know GM commitment was a problem. Even working on my book I haven’t missed a session. I’ve sort of wanted to a couple of times, because the only times I get to really write are (early) Saturday and Sunday mornings. After GGG I just can’t wake up at 4am the next morning to write, so it kills a whole day for me.

I’ll gladly give up a say of writing for my players, hell they are laying out cold hard cash to play my game, I owe them my best efforts.

It wasn't a problem in our game, but I know that there were a couple out there that didn't go off because the GMs weren't there. I'm not trying to say anything against the GMs here, because I'm sure they all had their reasons. Also, I would hope that the one shots that were put together for the players were lots of fun for them. I just think that if you know in advance you are going to have to miss a session or two, you should maybe put off GMing your game until the next session, because its kind of unfair to your players.

I agree that GMs should be committed, but that's not something that the organizers need to deal with. Plus, sometimes it works out for the best...I know one time scrotim was gone this season and his crew got to have an awesome one-shot by Red Baron

Okay, here's an idea.

Offer two games to run short sessions. 1 three session and the other 4 sessions. Someone might be interested in a long game, but a full seven sessions is just more than the could handle. A GOOD single Call of Cthulhu scenario runs 3-4 sessions easy. Sort of a middle ground between the marrige of a full run and the dirty no tell motel one night stand of a one shot.

Keep the schedule fortnightly. It makes it much, much easier to remember and hold to. I blew my crew off last week because I'm an idiot, and I'm not good at calendars, and I booked flights for ForgeCon relying on memory not fact... but they're totally getting a make-up session, and probably some extras.

Also, shit happens: in the course of this season, my partner's mother got diagnosed with cancer and went in for treatment. Sorry, but your game does not come first when Beloved and his mom need me. Let's be real.

Let's figure out wtf we're doing afterwards in, like, ten minutes or in advance, or something. I love the standing around and hanging out on the street, but I would rather be sitting around, hanging out and boozing. (If I get a late pass, I want to take full advantage!)

Can we start GGG5 back-to-back with GGG4, please? (I hereby volunteer to help out with organisation, if it would be useful). Coming back from ForgeCon this weekend, it strikes me that for all the good gaming there - and it was pretty good for me - even with it front-loaded with folks who play their asses off every week, the GGG is consistently better. I want more.

::ignores jenskot:: Can I run Nine Worlds for GGG5?

[dro voice] c'mon![/dro voice].

we all understand the emergencies and folks having real life stuff - no one expects people to come at the expense of the things that matters.

that you came to the sessions after you found out about the family emergency shows the commitment you have to your players. :tu:

otherwise, i think GMs should pass on running a game at GGG if they know ahead of time that they're going to miss more than one session. players aren't paying to be in a game, but to participate in a community event.

i think there is something great about playing with people you really like (or, in our case, really hate) as opposed to people you just met at some con, and that's what GGG is starting to be about.
