My webcomic Bunnies in Space!

Love in a little plastic bag with cardboard backing + grind-core, math-rock, polka, musical parody,

Postby NickSD on Sat Aug 04, 2012 4:45 pm

This summer, I launched a new webcomic, Bunnies in Space with a twice weekly release schedule; it is a full-color, long-form quirky sci-fi graphic novel about super-intelligent bunny rabbits beginning their own Bun Republic and becoming a spacefaring species before mankind. It's a sci-fi adventure and biting satire. It was covered recently in the e-mag Chalkpack.

Any advice on running a twice weekly long-form online comic, how to spread the word, how to build a readership? Super appreciated. I'd love to be involved in the NYC indie comic scene, but I've no idea how I'd go about that.

All my best,

Nick

Hi there

respect on publishing a comic on such a regular basis. One thing I would recommend is finding a better way to publish it in the webs - a tool a lot of my webcomic friends use is wordpress (and apparently wordpress has it's on plugin for webcomic format, but don't ask me too much, I have never used it). It might be this: http://comicpress.org/

It's important to make it as easy as possible for readers to read your comic - when they come to the index page, the latest strip should be right there.

As in how to get invlolved:
Visit events at comic book shops, go to indie comic cons, show people your stuff and take critique etc. etc. - the classic stuff :)

I almost made it to MoCCA Fest 2011, and I hope to get into MoCCA Fest 2013 (though MoCCA was borg-assimilated into the Society of Illustrators last month, and no longer has its SoHo location, nor exists as an independent entity, they say MoCCA Fest will still happen next spring). I didn't know Brooklyn had a Comic Con; I'll look into that.

Creating can be lonely. And there are a lot of exciting indie comics emerging here in NY. I'd love to be a part of the awesome in any way large or small; not sure how though. o/ Still haven't found, what I'm looking for o/

NickSD & I will be at NY Comic Con tomorrow (10/12/12) for a few hours, in case any nerds spot us!

He'll have a few print copies of Chapter 1 of Bunnies in Space to hand out as we wander around... but you can have a look right now! BiS also now has its own domain, www.bunniesinspace.com
