The Intel part of the Mainboard does Raid 0, 1, 5, 10. I can let the hardware do that part.

Cool. With that much RAM, maybe you won't have to use the scratch disks that much?

Adobe software manages its own scratch disk usage for very large files, separate of standard swap space.

I don't mind being played as long as [Megan Fox] keeps saying stuff like "I'll get naked and do a robot to sell movie tickets" cause that's the kind of future I want to live in. -cawshis

I see Adobe recommends using an SSD as the scratch disk, if the RAM is maxed out: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/opt ... 4-cs5.html

Man, this is really making me want to get a new CPU. My main PC is also the home entertainment unit, so keeping power use low is essential. I limited myself to a Core 2 Duo with a 65W TDP so I could run the fans low. Now there's a quad-core i7 with 65W TDP. That's nuts! I could probably get a much faster CPU than the one I have with a 45W TDP. But then I'd need a new motherboard and memory too, so it's a $400+ project. Since I just upgraded the drives, this will have to wait...

Without the drives, monitors, keyboard, or wacom, this will run me about $1800. I haven't comparison shopped yet, just getting a baseline cost.

The $440 video card would be my first target for savings ...

For me it's all about the video card, nice and powerful, 6 monitor support, also acts like a sound card through HDMI, I will connect it to every monitor/tv in my apartment!

Cool!

I just discovered that my new $35, fanless graphics card greatly speeds up video compression in NeroVideo through NVidia CUDA. If Adobe supports that sort of thing, you could be on to something by paying roughly the price of a new PC for the graphics card alone....

I keep seeing posts and blogs about After Effects Ray-Tracer and the NVida CUDA. I will not be using AE for that so I am not that worried.
As the some of the other programs in CS6 use openCL/GPU acceleration which works with ATI/AMD cards. I am looking forward to quicker brush rendering in PS!
