I'm pretty psyched about this. But I did hear one piece of bad news: in pre-release 1.8, the endermen do indeed move player-placed blocks with the unfortunate effect that yes, they'll fuck up your house and let monsters in. I'm hoping this gets changed, or we'll figure out there are certain blocks they can't move (like maybe obsidian or iron blocks).

I believe that moats will keep them at bay. Not sure of how they spawn.

There may also be 'claim flags' or something similar which ops can give players to mark an (unspecified to date) area as 'mine' which restricts other players from doing stuff with blocks there, and may work on Endermen, too. They spawn in darkness, and burn in the sun.

Otherwise, moats.
