Sunlight Souffle from the game has been created in real space!

To the gameless I bring games. To the funless I bring fun. Those who welcome these gifts may live, but I will visit naught but death and eternal damnation on those who refuse them!

What really strikes me about this game, and why I am ranting about it a bit to my ever-so-patient wife, is how it let me find a playstyle I liked in less than ten hours (I'm a sneaky mage-archer).

So I am thinking about how this relates back to table top rpg's. I have played HERO system, which is one of the big two build-whatever-you-like rpgs. But I am wondering if there are other systems/mechanics that let you discover your 'class' or your favorite style of approaching the in-game conflict, as opposed to making decisions before play starts. Does anyone know of an RPG game or mechanic that would let me start at 0 level and eventually gravitate toward a style?

Burning Wheel allows this style. By using skills, you improve the ones you want and you can always learn new ones at any time. By playing Beliefs, you can earn traits that evolve as you play.

Indeed. It's especially notable if you start with a young character.
I don't mind being played as long as [Megan Fox] keeps saying stuff like "I'll get naked and do a robot to sell movie tickets" cause that's the kind of future I want to live in. -cawshis

A whole lot of games would let you do this pretty easily if you didn't have to also balance 3 or 4 other people's approach to tackling the world. It's the difference between a game designed exclusively for solo play and one intended to be tackled as a party. That said, it's really dawned on me after a week or two of play just how much this is 'Fallout with swords'. Which is a feature, not a bug.

I have been meaning to buy the new Gold edition of BW. I do have to be careful about buying games I'm not likely to play, though. And I only say not likely to play because I can barely find time to play the ones I love.

Affirmative. Death-Bot 9000 would rather avoid internet drama.
