what came first, the anti-social games or the anti-social gamer?

My theory is that games make gamers anti-social. Is it really a step forward that everyone should sit alone at home and play together online? I think not, because where is the interaction that takes place around the game? Where are the high-fives and the jokes, the stories about our day at work, the break for dinner and the beloved pizza and beer? They are gone, because everything is being pushed online. I believe that console manufacturers want everything online so they can compete with each other in the new online frontier. But the casualty of this competition is gamers, gamers that want to sit in the same room, play together, and socialize.

i think we could convince everyone left behind by online gaming to become dysfunctional RPG gamers... who's with me?

this guy wrote:Not to mention Gauntlet, or other RPGs like Baldur's Gate.

How long has this guy been "gaming"? Both of those games (I'm presuming he's referencing Gauntlet: Legends and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance) are only a few years old. You have descendants of them on the market today (X-Men: Legends and the Everquest console games).

From my gaming experience (Atari 2600 and C64 to contemporary consoles and computers), the vast majority of console and computer games have been single player. Online play isn't terribly new to consoles, either, other than it being "in the box" these days. I played Genesis games online a decade ago.

Games and gamers blamed again for the alienation of modern America.
