So how did the one shot go?
Succinctly, it didn't. It garnered no pre-regs, no sign-ups and no drop-ins. Which is especially disappointing because it was the game I was most looking forward to running at Dexcon. In retrospect, offering
SUPERS! while the new-hotness in superhero games
Marvel Heroic was fresh and plentiful on the board was probably a hard pitch.
Any chance you might run this next Recess?
Absolutely a chance, with a prepped game all set and just waiting for an oppurtunity to go.
EDIT: Sorry, after posting I realized you probably weren't referring to Dexcon, the lingering bitterness of rejection keeping it poignant in my mind. The one-shot run with the Red-Boxers, in prep for Dex-Con, actually went very well. I had four players: two particular fans of super-hero games, Tav and Tav's pre-teen son Javi. They all enjoyed it and said they liked the system. I also think it ran very well, barring some notable but easily fixable mechanical issues.
Quoting my re-cap from the Rod-Box forum:Brief session summary:
Apollo Rex, Silverfrost, SkyWoman and Mr. Stickman were called into action as a a jetliner spun towards a crash-landing in the heart of Superior City. Fortunately they were able to summon enough raw power to bring it to a soft landing, and investigation quickly revealed that the plane's engines had been choked by coordinated flocks of pigeons, and millions of dollars stolen from its cargo hold by … Dr. Rock Dove! Tracking the fiend to his secret lair atop a skyscraper, the team was first ambushed by the explosive ferocity of Man-Missile, then just as they were about to raid the deadly docter SkyWoman received a summons from her corporate masters demanding her services in stopping a marauding Bull-Beetle. The heroes decided to go en masse to deal with the more violent situation, but left Mr Stickman's pet dog Squiggly behind to keep an eye on things. Arriving at the battle site, the heroes were dismayed to find themselves attacked by the corporate security systems (except for SkyWoman) which did not recognize their authority to enter. Eventually enough laser turrets were destroyed to allow the heroes to focus on Bull-Beetle and bring him down. Racing back to Dr. Rock Dove's last known location, they found he'd flown the coop and abducted Squiggly along the way. Fortunately Stickman was able to find the clues that led to the Doctor's fallback hideout in the Aerie Caves, and Apollo Rex was able to study the leftover equipment and jury-rig a device to negate Rock Dove's pigeon-control waves. Bashing their way into the caves, SkyWoman raced ahead to nab Dr. Rock Dove, unaware that Apollo Rex was ambushed by Twist-Turn-Slide and Silverfrost by the nightmarish Viscera, leaving her to fight alone. Luckily Stickman was able to squirm through a crevice and turn the odds, and soon all villains were beaten into submission and the day was saved!
But then, a series of invisible and silent shots struck each hero with a numbing paralysis poison! As they fell to the ground, the Scarlet Derby dropped his cloaking enchantment anh chuckled at the start of his nefarious plan…
